FOR this week's trip into the Advertiser's archives we wind back the clock 15 years to our 2002 story on a group of volleyball players from Hermitage Academy. How many faces do you recognise?

Here's how we reported the pupils' achievements in our edition of May 23, 2002...

FOUR Hermitage Academy teams from S1 - made up of three girls’ teams and one boys’ team - played in the Scottish Schools mini-volleyball festival at the Magnum Centre in Irvine recently.

The first girls’ team was captain Kristine Ayling, Rachel Moffat and Melanie Ranking and they were the winners of their event. This was a very creditable performance as the opposition were of an extremely high standard and vastly more experienced than the Colgrain players.

Hermitage’s second team was captain Sarah Fleming, Sarah Rakhra and April Wernham, who finished in ninth place out of 20 teams taking part. They narrowly missed qualifying for the top pool where they would have joined their school-mates in the firsts, playing for places one to five.

The third girls’ team was captained by Jane Dickson with Lynsey Cameron, Joanne Liddell and Lori Henderson and they finished 15th - a good result for players who had no previous competitive experience.

The boys were led by Andrew Maclachlan with Jamie Roy and Aaron Lafferty, finishing 20th which doesn’t really reflect their efforts during the day which included two very good wins.

Considering they had only just got together they did very well and should expect a bright future.
