A LOCAL children's charity have received a cash injection to buy equipment for their garden.

B.A.S.I.C. SCIO has recently received a donation of £1651.36 from Helensburgh Gymnastics Club which will allow them to purchase agility equipment for the 150 local children aged 1-13 who access their services.

The donation, paired with an award from the Co-operative store in Helensburgh, will make a huge difference for the charity who have been campaigning for the last 12 months to develop their outside space.

The staff and parents are delighted that this cash boost will allow them to develop what has been described as "uninspiring".

A spokeswoman for B.A.S.I.C. said: "This will enable B.A.S.I.C. to transform a very uninspiring outside space and create an area with an opportunity for the children to develop their fitness and wellbeing as well as a variety of sensory experiences and imaginative play."

Three years ago B.A.S.I.C. was facing closure, but since moving to a new location in central Helensburgh they have gone from strength to strength.

B.A.S.I.C, meaning Before and After School in the Community, began 23 years ago after it was set up by a group of mothers for mothers, who were essentially looking after each other's children. The aim today is to continue to support all local families with affordable childcare.

But the charity is still dependent upon the support and goodwill of the community and grant providers to invest in its premises and equipment and the team are grateful for this recent donation.

The spokeswoman continued: "The Management Team are overwhelmed by the ongoing support and look forward to working with parents to meet their changing needs and to continue to deliver quality childcare."
