TALKS have taken place between police and anti-nuclear protesters ahead of an eight-day anti-Trident protest near Coulport next month.
The Trident Ploughshares campaign is planning to set up camp in the Peaton Glen Wood between Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 16, though the main focus of its protests will be half a mile away at RNAD Coulport, where the nuclear warheads for the UK’s Trident missiles are stored.
The campaign’s spokesman, David McKenzie,said earlier this year that the protesters would try to keep disruption to Rosneath peninsula residents to a minimum.
MoD Police constable Willie Lavery told Rhu and Shandon Community Council that no significant obstructions, road closures or other traffic issues were expected.
And Mr Lavery’s MDP colleague, Ian Mustarde, told community councillors in Garelochhead that there had been a “good dialogue” between protesters and police ahead of the event.
