GARELOCHHEAD residents have voiced fears that a zebra crossing in the centre of the village may be putting pedestrians at risk rather than making them safer.
The crossing, near the junction of the main B872 road through the village and Feorlin Way, has recently been repainted – but members of Garelochhead Community Council were told this week that the crossing's location, close to a busy junction and near a bend and crest on the main road, made an accident more, not less, likely.
GCC treasurer Margaret Stratton told Tuesday's meeting she had witnessed a driver carrying out an emergency stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian using the crossing.
Vice-convener Martin Croft said: “It's an accident waiting to happen – and it will happen.”
GCC convener Watson Robinson said he would raise the safety concerns with Argyll and Bute Council.
