REPRESENTATIVES from Arrochar Community Hydro Society will be in the village this weekend to explain more about the project.

The team will be in the Three Villages Hall in Arrochar on Saturday, July 1 between 10am and 12 noon to discuss the scheme with anyone interested in hearing more.

The 125kw hydro plant will be located above the village of Arrochar and will be a run of river scheme.

The electricity generated will be sold onto the National Grid.

Income generated will be conveyed to the Community Development Trusts for ongoing projects and future community benefit with a proportion returned to members as share interest.

The Arrochar Community Hydro Society has been created with the local community in mind.

The scheme was initiated by and is fully supported by Luss Estates, with the land and river for the scheme leased to the society at a peppercorn rate.

Profits from the project will be distributed 50/50 to the two development trusts - The Arrochar & Tarbet and Luss & Arden Development Trusts.

The Development Trusts aims are to improve the quality of life for residents, especially the young and elderly within our rural location, some distance from urban facilities and services.

A main priority for both Trusts is operating and maintaining Community Hall facilities that provide a social, cultural, recreational and educational hub for residents.

Income from a steady source of income would stabilise and sustain continued provision of this vital community asset and service which no longer receives local authority funding.
