NO schools in Helensburgh and Lomond have the same cladding used on the Grenfell Tower block, it has been confirmed.

Argyll and Bute Council told the Advertiser that no Helensburgh and Lomond schools were affected after an investigation found that schools in 14 Scottish local authorities had the same type of cladding as that used on the London tower block.

The Grenfell Tower fire occurred on June 14 at the 24-storey block of public housing in North Kensington.

The fire caused at least 80 deaths and over 70 injuries but a definite death toll is not expected until at least 2018.

It is thought the fire started in a fridge freezer on the fourth floor and is believed to have been accelerated by the building’s exterior cladding.

Checks are being carried out, but no Scottish local authority school above 18 metres tall has aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding.
