THIS weekend's Helensburgh Summer Festival is set to benefit from the use of equipment replaced by a generous Helensburgh donor.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, £3,000 worth of vital equipment needed to stage the Winter Festival, including six generators and eight transformers was stolen in a raid on the organising committee’s store.

Last week, we reported that a Helensburgh man had dug into his own pocket and donated £3,000 to ensure that the festival went ahead.

Organisers were overwhelmed with the donation and paid for the new equipment on Monday.

It arrived on Wednesday, and means it is available to be used at the Summer Festival this weekend.

A spokeswoman for the Summer Festival, said: “The equipment arrives today (Wednesday), sponsored by our very generous £3,000 donor which means we are okay to use some of this equipment for the Summer Festival and means we do not have to incur extra costs for bringing in that equipment.

“Great news. All we need now is huge crowds to enjoy the promised sunshine.”
