HELENSBURGH Parish Church played host to more than 125 people from throughout Argyll and Bute to celebrate the work of the 1000 Voices Project.

1000 Voices is a project run by the Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface which aims top open up opportunities for older people.

The project supports a variety of groups and activities ranging from singing groups to day trips, book clubs to soup groups and knitting groups to computer classes.

The get together at Helensburgh Parish Church was the culmination of a week of activities. Mp Brendan O'Hara opened the event and Councillor Aileen Morton judged the knitting competition, which was won by Helensburgh group the Knitting Bee.

Alison Gildea from the 1000 Voices Team, said: “It was a fabulous afternoon. Lots of older people attended and they were able to find out more about our project and how to get involved. We were also delighted that members of Local Vocals were able to attend and provide us with some superb musical entertainment. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a lovely event."

The project is funded with the help of the Big Lottery. Lesley Galbraith, from the Big Lottery attended the final event in Helensburgh.

She said: "It was great to see the extent and range of what you, 1000 Voices project, do in the flesh and to meet more of the people involved.

"Not an easy task organising an event – a packed event at that – and making it fun and lively – so congratulations to the team for doing that. A great representation of the 1000 Voices work.”
