THE 50th birthday of Rosneath Primary School is set to be celebrated in a new lottery-funded project in partnership with the Cove Park artists' centre.

Cove Park has received a 'Sharing Heritage' grant of £3,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to work with the school and artist Linda Florence on building a unique picture of the school's life in the local community through the eyes of its staff and pupils.

The project will encourage the learning and sharing of heritage through creative practice and will see Linda deliver a series of workshops within the school to encourage and develop the pupil’s skills as investigators and to introduce ways for them to translate their findings into artworks.

There will be opportunities for members of the community to be involved by sharing stories and taking part in creative workshops.

Information about those workshops will be announced on the Cove Park website - www.covepark.org - and through the school.

Commenting on the award, Rosneath's MSP, Jackie Baillie, said: “I was delighted to hear that the funding will be used to enhance the programme for the anniversary celebrations, and to explore the heritage of the town and the school. I think this will be an excellent opportunity for locals and visitors to share in the celebrations and learn about the history.”

Lucy Casot, head of HLF Scotland, said: “A heritage project celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rosneath Primary School is a fine example of HLF’s Sharing Heritage programme that, thanks to National Lottery players, makes it possible for local people to choose what is important to them, what they want to save, and how they want to spread the word throughout their community."
