AN ASSOCIATE minister of two congregations in the Helensburgh area has been formally appointed.

The Presbytery of Dumbarton held a service of introduction last week to mark Rev Tina Kemp’s new role at Helensburgh Parish Church, linked with Rhu and Shandon.

Family, friends and members of both congregations gathered for the service which was held in Helensburgh Parish Church, conducted by the Rev David Young and by Presbytery Moderator David Sinclair and Tina’s friend, the Rev Norma Moore, preached the sermon.

Tina was ordained in 2005 and spent much of her early ministry at the former West Kirk of Helensburgh, where she served part time while working as a reporter. Tina gave up journalism five years ago and worked with two Clydebank congregations before returning to Helensburgh a year and a half ago in a part-time ministry role. In May she was appointed to the full-time associate’s post alongside Mr Young.

Tina said: “I am delighted to be back in Helensburgh where my ministry began and to be working with two wonderful congregations. I’d like to thank everyone who came along to the service last week.” and also all those who worked so hard to make it such a special night.

“I look forward, with David, to continuing to serve the people of Helensburgh and Rhu & Shandon parish churches.”
