HELENSBURGH police officers will be undertaking roadchecks throughout the night in response to the theft of two cars in the area.

Between 8.30pm on Monday, September 11 and 6.45am on Tuesday, September 12 a grey Audi A1 was stolen from Main Road, Cardross and between 10.15pm on Wednesday, September 13 and 6.30am on Thursday, September 14 a silver Ford Focus was stolen from Sommerville Place, Helensburgh.

Both cars were stolen using the true key and Inspector Matthew Webb is urging members of the public to safeguard their property.

He said: "I would urge members of the public safeguard their property, keeping doors locked to remove the opportunity for anyone to sneak into a home and steal items.

"This unfortunately includes car keys, which some people leave in view near to an open window or door.

"In response to the theft of cars I have arranged for officers on night shift to undertake road checks throughout the area to stop vehicles and ensure everything is in order with the vehicles.

"I appreciate that this may be a minor inconvenience for genuine drivers, however they will not be stopped for long and I wish to reassure the public the reasons for these checks."
