A HELENSBURGH man must wait to hear his fate after his sentence was deferred for the second time.

Craig Edwards, of Ben Bouie Drive, appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday, October 13.

The court had previously called for background reports on Edwards, who was due to be sentenced for shouting, swearing, screaming, uttering offensive remarks and placing two people in a state of fear and alarm on Ben Bouie Drive on August 30, this year.

His defence agent Brian McGuire told the court prison staff had scheduled Edwards for a medical assessment on October 10, but it did not take place as Edwards had been informed of the date the exam was due to be held.

Mr McGuire explained: “For security reasons they were not willing to take him, I think, because they are concerned the prisoner might alert others that they will be outside and attempt to be sprung from custody.”

However, Mr McGuire assured the 44-year-old’s assessment would take place in due course and that the prison service recommended he be housed at Rosshead House in Alexandria “because they take the view that ideally he should not be in custody”.

Sheriff Ferguson confirmed Edwards had “no desire” to return to his former home and agreed to grant bail whilst awaiting the conclusion of medical assessments.

He told Edwards: “The important thing is to get the reports from the doctor and the other procedure carried out as well.”

Sentence was deferred for three weeks and Edwards was placed under special conditions to reside at Rosshead House and not to “approach or attend” his former street.
