MAJOR roadworks on the A82 by Loch Lomond, starting next week, will last longer - and cost more - than originally thought.

The work will force drivers on a lengthy diversion when it begins this Monday, November 6.

The trunk road will be closed to all through traffic, except for buses, between Tarbet and Crianlarich from 8am to 6pm on weekdays only.

The work was due to cost £900,000 and was to have been completed by Friday, November 17.

But BEAR Scotland, which is responsible for maintaining the trunk route, now says the work will cost £1 million and will last until Tuesday, November 21.

Access will be maintained at all times for emergency services, school and service buses, and residents and businesses within the closed section.

All other traffic will be diverted via the A83 to Inveraray, the A819 to Dalmally and the A85 to Crianlarich.

Road users can plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website and @TrafficScotland on Twitter and by leaving extra time for their journeys.
