A KIND-HEARTED Helensburgh youngster loved being pampered when she had her haircut for charity recently.

Olivia Fraser Galbraith, 5, had never had her hair cut and decided to make her first one count.

The youngster decided to donate 12 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, who provide free real hair wigs, free of charge, to children across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

As well as donating her hair Olivia was able to hand over £200 to boost the funds raised in the Stand Up To Cancer Campaign in the town.

Mum Karen, who is a volunteer in the local Cancer Research UK shop, lost both her parents to cancer, and decided to choose a charity close to her heart to benefit from any money raised.

Olivia was “really excited” to get her hair cut and bravely made her way to Division on Sinclair Street on Wednesday, October 18, where Fiona Campbell kindly cut her hair for free.

Karen, said: “Fiona had got balloons and some bubbles and they had sprayed one of the gowns with gold and that was to be her special gown.

"The staff and customers in Division all made a fuss of her, which was lovely.

“She keeps telling people about donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust and that they’ll give her hair to little girls that don’t have any hair.

"Also every time we’ve had a donation for the SU2C campaign I’ve told her about it and explained it’s for cancer research.

“I’m really proud of her. So far we have now raised £200, which is fantastic and has taken the total in the campaign to over £13,000.”

Olivia loves her new look and is proud she helped other children by getting it cut.

Olivia said: “I loved getting my haircut and I really liked getting it straightened.”

Alison Sturgeon, of the Cancer Research UK shop, said: “Olivia raised £199 for SU2C, by donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

"She looks beautiful and did a great thing. Our total now stands at over £13,000.”

Both Karen and Olivia are delighted with the amount raised so far, as they hadn’t set a target. There is still time to donate to the Stand Up To Cancer campaign by dropping into the Sinclair Street store.
