HELENSBURGH'S Cancer Research UK Shop is currently the number one shop in the UK after a great weekend of Hallowe'en fund-raising.

Staff and volunteers at the store have held a number of events over the last month to raise as much money as possible for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

Last year the shop managed to raise a final total of £10,257, and this year were aiming to surpass that.

This year's total stands at £13,263.53, with more money expected to come in before a final total is revealed when the campaign officially finishes on November 13.

Despite a weekend of terrible weather the store managed to have a "successful" final weekend of events which included a 'spooktacular' bake sale in the store, the Freakin' Weekend event at The Logie Baird and a charity gig.

Local performer Louis Page took to the stage at the Logie Baird on Friday, October 27 alongside Hot Ratz and Everywhere for a charity gig which boosted the funds by £480.

On Friday a Hallowe'en themed bucket collection took place and on Saturday, October 28, a bake sale took place in store along with bucket collections.

Lomond School and Lorna Gittoes of The Creation Station helped over the weekend to raise £833.69.

The final event of the weekend saw The Logie Baird once again play host to the Freakin' Weekend event, featuring DJ Dexi, which raised £150.

Staff at the store have extended their thanks to everyone who donated, helped, volunteered and supported their events.

Alison Sturgeon, assistant manager, said: "Despite terrible weather on Saturday we managed a great final weekend.

"We have a couple of small collections next weekend and we officially finish on November 13.

"Everyone worked so hard to make the events a success. Thank you so much to everyone, the people in Helensburgh have been so generous."
