STAFF at Loch Lomond Shores are putting the final preparations in place for this weekend’s Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks display.

The free event this Sunday, November 19, is expected to attract around 15,000 people.

This year there will be additional decorations and activities, including the launch of a continental-style Christmas market with roast chestnuts, mulled wine, German sausages, gingerbread and more are set to keep people entertained.

There will also be face painters, balloons, a cartoonist and a carousel. The Kilted Skirlie restaurant will have a special festive menu available on the day and is currently taking bookings for tables with a view of the firworks.

The day will start at 10am with the weekend market and the launch of the Christmas market.

From noon, Your Radio will lead guests through the afternoon with music, giveaways and entertainment until the fireworks light the sky.

Audrey Reid, Loch Lomond Shores manager, said: “We’re very excited about Christmas this year. The Christmas lights and fireworks event has been really popular on Facebook, so we’re expecting a good turnout.

“We’ll have a couple of very special guests to help us turn on the lights.

“We appreciate that it’s a school night, so people might want to get away immediately afterwards, but the markets will be open to 7pm, to help get everyone into the festive spirit.”

Local charity ROHHAD Association will be fund-raising on the day and, as the event is free to attend, organisers are encouraging people to give what they can to the charity, who are trying to raise awareness about the rare and life-threatening muscle condition which affects children.

Organisers are thanking people in advance for their patience in trying to get out the car parks following the event, and are inviting anyone who can stay longer to enjoy what’s on offer until 8pm, allowing the car parks to clear a little.
