A DRIVER had a lucky escape near Loch Lomond on Friday when a car overturned.

Police attended the incident on the A82, near Cameron House, at 11.50pm on November 24.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police attended an incident on A82 near to Cameron House hotel due to a report of a vehicle having left the roadway.

“The driver was found to be uninjured but was assessed by ambulance staff as a precaution.”

In a separate incident on Friday, two cars were involved in a crash on the A814 Cardross Road in Helensburgh, at the roundabout near the town's Waitrose supermarket.

No-one was injured and nobody has been charged as a result of the collision, though the road was closed for a short time to allow recovery of the vehicles involved.

Meanwhile, with icy conditions set to get worse in the coming weeks, drivers are being urged to take care on the roads.

Helensburgh experienced the first snowfall of the year last week and with temperatures starting to plummet The Car People have put together some tips to tackle the big freeze.

Jonathan Allbones, director of The Car People, advises people make sure their tyres are suitable for winter conditions in advance and to top up coolant with anti-freeze before heading out.

When it comes to defrosting your windscreen, he advises: “The best and safest way to clear your windscreen is to use a scraper and de-icer.

“Starting the engine, switching on the heated rear screen and mirrors, and allowing air-conditioned air to circulate to gently warm the glass also helps speed up the process.

“Ensure you don’t leave your car on its own with the keys in the ignition, and double check that your windscreen and all windows are fully defrosted before you drive off.”

Another tip to prepare for winter is to put together a car breakdown kit including a high vis vest, snow shovel, torch, thermal blankets, food and drink and a phone charger. He also advises driver to check their breakdown cover and make they know their policy.
