For this week's trip into the Advertiser's archives we go back 15 years to our coverage of Helensburgh's annual pantomime.

Here's how we reported the story on December 12, 2002...

THERE have been many amazing and adventure-filled places that heroes and heroines of screen, stage and literature have visited over the years.

Wonderland, Oz, Hogwarts, Middle Earth, the centre of the earth and the bottom of the sea have enchanted children and adults alike with their weird and wonderful ways.

But with a bit of luck, a new setting could be added to that illustrious list as Dorothy and Lotto’s Big Bicentenary Adventure is premiered at the Victoria Halls.

Presented by Helensburgh Theatre Arts and written by Martin McNaughton, the show tells the tale of Dorothy and her dog Lotto who, after looking for some fun during the bicentenary celebrations, are grounded by Dorothy’s Aunt Wanda.

Director Alison Holliman said: “The rehearsals have been going really well and everyone is excited about the first night.

Cast and crew are getting set for the show’s first performance tonight (Thursday) but there are still other chances left to see how Dorothy gets on in her adventures.

So anyone who wants to enjoy the end of the town’s Bicentenary year watching some top-notch performances in an original panto should get their tickets booked as soon as they can, and prepare for a great night.
