A snowy scene showing a baby penguin finding a gift from its parents is set to warm the hearts of thousands of people in Helensburgh and Lomond this Christmas.

The cute image, drawn by Cardross Primary School pupil Ethan Kinloch, has scooped first prize in a competition to design Jackie Baillie MSP's Christmas card.

This means that the primary seven pupil's drawing will be seen by 3,500 people, charities, businesses and other organisations who are set to receive the card.

Winners of the competition, sponsored by the Helensburgh Advertiser, the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter and Morrisons, were announced at a ceremony in the supermarket on Sunday.

The runners up will see their designs featured on the back of the card.

Sinead Ray, from Lennox Primary in Bonhill, took second place, and the joint third place was shared by Robyn Williamson from St Patrick’s in Dumbarton and Jenna Gallacher from Lomond School in Helensburgh.

Morrisons donated the prizes for the best designs.

Jackie said: “I was delighted to receive more entries than ever this year from 15 local schools.

"The judging panel found it very difficult to choose an overall winner but Ethan’s design is heart-warming and fits the festive theme perfectly.

“I would like to thank the Helensburgh Advertiser and the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter for sponsoring the competition, and Morrisons for providing the prizes and hosting all the winners at the prize-giving ceremony.

"My thanks also go to all the schools and pupils who took part."
