PUPILS from Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh are celebrating their success in the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championships.

The 42-strong team achieved second place at Ravenscraig regional sports facility, finishing behind George Watson's College in Edinburgh, who took the top spot, and in front of Balfrom High in third.

In the S1 event at the competition, Rhona Mackinnon finished second, six metres behind the winner, which Catriona Stewart finished in fifth place.

In the boys event Jamie Senior scooped silver while Cole Martin finished up 4th. The four rowers teamed up to be national champions in the S1 team event.

They took gold, finishing a full six seconds ahead of George Watsons in their 100m race.

Kara McFadyen and Fabio Giarchi competed in the S1 races finishing 20th and 26th.

Hermitage competitiors scooped placed in the individual events. In S2 girls Kyla Darizon took 15th, Lexy Kenhard took 17th and Amelia Murphy finished 25th. The three girls teamed up with Agnes Borland to finish fourth in the team event.

Ethan Wellwood finished 5th in the S2 boys race after being in bronze medal position for the majority of the race.

Campbell Overend finished 7th and Thomas Hewitt 17th in the three minute race. The S2 boys with the help of Fergus Butt combined to finish third on the team event.

Top finishers in the S3 girls events were Jess McQueen in 14th, Elizabeth Swain in 26th and Katie Reid in 27th. Alexandra MacMillan joined the team and the girls finished up 5th.

Lachlan Mackinnon, S3, picked up silver after finishing just 30 metres behind the winner. Callum McKay finished in 16th with Josh Bain in 17th. They finished third in the team event alongside Mathew Walker, missing silver by two seconds.

In the S4 girls event Mia Rooney and Emily Miller finished 7th and 10th respectively and alongside Rachael Mackillop and Charlie Bridges, finished 5th as a team.

Cameron Murray finished 12th in the S4 event with Ross Campbell and Lewis Smith finishing 19th and 20th. Cmbined with Jamie Smith they finished third as a team.

In the S5 boys six minute race Michael Roy picked up a bronze medal, finishing just eight metres behind the winner.

Bryn Davies finished 11th and with Nathan Walker and Jack Chapman they came fourth.

Mhairi Cromar finished 10th in the S6 girls event with Catriona MacBean in 13th. They were joined for the team event by Lydia Porter-Smith and Anne Young and finished 7th.

Alex MacKinnon finished 10th in the S6 boys event with Jake Miller in 11th and Connor Munro in 13th. Rory Chalmers joined them for the team event in witch they finished fourth.
