A GUEST at Cameron House Hotel on the morning of the deadly fire has praised the life-saving actions of the night manager.

Hannah Munns from Leeds has offered heartfelt thanks to the manager who, she believes, saved her life and that of other family members.

Writing on the hotel's Facebook page, Hannah says: "My husband, five year old and I couldn’t get out.

"We ran down the staircase to reception and we couldn’t get through because of the fire. It was smoky and had lost all bearings .

"We were running trying to find our way out. We then heard a voice calling us.

"We went towards the voice and got finally got out. It felt like hours but was no doubt only minutes. Thank you so much. And thank you to all of the amazing Cameron House staff and emergency services."

Hannah said her biggest message was never assume a fire alarm is a test.

She added: "Don’t assume someone has burnt toast or a joker has set it off. Just get out as quickly as you can and assume later.

"Finally so much love to the family and friends who lost their loved ones."

Hannah's message was one of hundreds posted on Cameron House Hotel's Facebook page after the fire, which claimed the lives of Londoners Simon Midgley, 32 and Richard Dyson, 38.

Both men, on a pre-Christmas trip to Scotland, were staying at the hotel on December 18 when fire broke out at around 6.30am, causing a mass evacuation of 200 guests.

One of the men died at the scene and the other died in hospital later in the day.

In a statement, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said its joint investigation with Police Scotland into the cause of a fire at Cameron House Hotel was ongoing.

In the days after the fire, hundreds of messages offering sympathy from home and abroad were left on the hotel's Facebook page.

Many praised the resort manager Andy Roger and staff for the professional way in which the emergency was handled, and others working in the hotel industry added their condolences.

Stephen Carter, general manager of the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews, and his staff, wrote: "A very sincere and heartfelt response to a total tragedy.

"An event that every hotelier dreads but there is no better man to lead the team through these dark days than Andy Roger.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved on Loch Lomondside.

Culreuch Castle Hotel, near Fintry posted: "Andy, our thoughts are with you and all the staff at Cameron House. If there is anything we can do to help please do not hesitate to call. Robert and everyone at Culreuch Castle, Fintry."

Tracey Marnelli wrote: "This has totally broken my heart. We got married at Cameron House on December 18, 2004, so 13 years ago [to the date].

Our anniversary will now be a day of sadness as well as celebration as we will always remember seeing our beloved Cameron House ravaged by fire.

"To lose this building which holds so many precious memories is one thing but devastating that two young lives were were lost and our thoughts are with their families as they come to terms with this dreadful loss."

Meanwhile, the police have thanked the public for their support over the festive period.

A post on Argyll and West Dunbartonshire's Police Division's Facebook page states: "We would like to thank everyone who has attended at Cameron House over the last few days and provided our officers with hot drinks and snacks.

"The generosity has been overwhelming and it has been greatly received by everyone who has been working over the festive period. Thank you, all!

The hotel remains closed as investigations continue.

A message on their website states: "Following the extensive fire within the main building of the hotel on Monday, December 18th, Cameron House Hotel, the Leisure Club and the food and beverage areas within the main hotel are now closed.

"We would kindly ask all our guests and customers to bear with us as we work closely with the Fire Service and Police Scotland to establish the extent of the damage and to ascertain when we will be able to reopen.

"We will update this page as soon as we have further information and thank you all for your patience and the very many kind messages of support we have received in recent days."
