A HELENSBURGH teen attacked his girlfriend and then knocked another man unconscious for two minutes.

Kieran Spence, of Townend Road, pleaded guilty last week to assaulting his partner to her injury in Colquhoun Square last year and to an assault to severe injury against another man.

The severity of the charges against Spence was reduced by the Crown before the plea, while prosecutors also removed a 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, from the indictment.

Fiscal depute Claire Nicholls told Dumbarton Sheriff Court that Spence, 19, was out on the night of April 15, 2017 with friends while his partner of three years was on a works night out.

Around 2am on April 16, Spence’s partner left a pub in James Street, and as she was walking away, became aware of Spence.

He then pushed her to the stomach, causing her to fall and graze her knee.

A man intervened and Spence repeatedly punched him and brandished a bottle at him, twice kicking him to the body and rendering him unconscious for about two minutes.

Another two witnesses intervened to offer medical assistance and one removed his T-shirt to apply pressure to a wound.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment, while Spence attended later at Clydebank police office.

Ms Nicholls continued: “He spoke freely and admitted to assaulting this complainer [his partner] by pushing her to the ground.”

Spence told police who were called to the scene that he had not assaulted the other man, who had swelling to his left cheek, grazes to his head, and a laceration to an elbow.

CCTV footage showed Spence approaching his girlfriend and her falling to the ground but Ms Nicholls said the time lapse didn’t show how she came to be on the ground.

The footage of the second assault was said to be poor.

Sheriff Simon Pender deferred sentence until April 4 for social work and restriction of liberty reports to be prepared.

Spence’s bail was continued.
