Helensburgh’s Nicki Skrastin and her Scotland hockey team-mates ended their Commonwealth Games on a high as they managed a comfortable 4-2 win over Malaysia.

The 25-year-old was part of the Scotland squad which came sixth in Glasgow 2014 and the result in last week’s match secured a seventh spot finish for the Scots in the Gold Coast ahead of Malaysia, Wales and Ghana.

It didn’t take Scotland too long to bag the opening goal as Millie Brown scored with a far post tap-in.

Amy Brodie then hit a deserved second into the top corner and nabbed their third with a clinical low finish.

Malaysia managed to pull two back, but the Scots eventually put the game to bed near its conclusion as Lucy Lanigan scored to make it 4-2 for Scotland, before Skrastin came close to adding a fifth for Scotland.

Before facing the Malaysians in the play-off for seventh place, the Scots had needed a win in their previous game against Australia to have any hope of semi-final qualification.

Unfortunately, however, despite putting in a valiant and hard-working performance against the 5th best team in the world, they went down 2-0 to the eventual silver medallists.

They had earlier opened their campaign with a 6-1 loss to eventual gold-medal winners New Zealand, before dusting themselves off to battle to a 0-0 draw with Canada.

Gordon Shepherd’s side then managed a second shut-out of the pool matches as they stormed to an emphatic 5-0 defeat of Ghana.
