Helensburgh Scout's new campsite at Loch Lomond has been given a cash boost thanks to the town's beer festival.

The Scout group is the latest to receive a donation following last year's festival which was a record breaker, both in terms of the number of people who attended - well over 2000 revellers across both days - and in the amount of money raised.

Last weekend, Alan Dunn, vice chairman of Helensburgh Round Table - the festival organisers - dropped in on the Scouts Easter camp to present them with a cheque to help them further improve their campsite by adding a new toilet.

Alan said: "Helensburgh's Scout Group have developed a fantastic new campsite site on the banks of Loch Lomond over the last few years. "Through the hard work of all involved with the group and assistance from many volunteers, a site has been created and is well used by many local and visiting Cubs and Scouts.

"Despite the cold temperatures, all of the Scouts seemed to be having great fun.

"It's fantastic to be able to support the Scouts further improve their campsite.

"We were able to provide funding to help them add a fresh water stand pipe a few years ago, so to be able to help with a toilet is great!'"

The success of last year's festival has meant that, in addition to the Scouts, grants have been given to many local clubs and organisations over the past 12 months.

Donations have been made to Gareloch Riding for the Disabled Association, Helensburgh Community Council's Colquhoun Square project, Helensburgh and Lomond Food Bank, Helensburgh and Lomond Autism, Ardencaple Football Club and Helensburgh Youth Rugby Club, to name but a few.

Now, with the 12th annual Helensburgh Beer and Gin festival is fast approaching - it takes place on May 18 and 19 at Helensburgh Sailing Club - the Round Table is busy making final arrangements.

Alan added: "The beer festival was a great success last year, although it did get very busy at times, so the planning committee are working hard to make this year's event even better with a bigger site, an extra marquee and more space for our patrons.

"Please come along and support the event again this year to allow Round Table to continue to help local community groups."
