SUFFOLK Street is the place for mini tennis action these days, with nearly 100 new members in Helensburgh LTC’s Mini Tennis club and many events scheduled for the children over the forthcoming weeks.

The activities kicked off last Saturday with three hours of fun, games and a picnic lunch for all the children in the red, orange and green programme.

After the usual morning coaching class, around 40 children practised their skills with ball control exercises, football and physical co-ordination drills. there was a quick break for lunch and then on to team games with a sports day theme.

This proved to be hugely entertaining as the children tried their hand at such diverse activities as catapulting balls at targets, kicking footballs at balloons tied to the fencing, hitting balls through raised hoops and steering pucks around obstacles.

The children, whatever their age, thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and all were winners on the day.

Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who helped with the event, and to head coach Steve Losh, who planned and co-ordinated the day.
