The Helensburgh and Gareloch Horticultural Society nearly sold out of plants within two hours at their annual plant sale.

The doors of the Victoria Halls opened to the public and keen gardeners opened at 9.30 am and many tables were empty by 11am with about 150 people attending.

Bedding, vegetable plants, shrubs and house plants, were just a few of the high quality plants available at the annual event.

The chairperson of the HGHS Veronica Davis said: “It went very well indeed.

“It was very busy. We opened at half 9 and by 11 o’clock there was hardly anything left.

“We always have a huge array of plants and shrubs and it’s very popular.

“It’s a very well-known event in Helensburgh, so that’s why we always have quite a lot of stuff.”

The plant sale was set up many years ago as a fundraising event to help support the annual flower and vegetable show in the late summer.

The sale will be held on August 25 this year.
