Kilcreggan teachers proved they were a good sport at a gala fundraiser for the Royal Hospital for Children.

Despite the cold wind and rain, Mrs Frances Bretman, Mr Brown and Mrs Susan Jameson were thoroughly soaked by children who threw wet sponges at them to raise money for the Schiehallion Ward at the hospital after primary 1 pupil William Young was admitted after being diagnosed with cancer.

The 50s gala day, which was organised by Kilcreggan Primary School PTC, raised £70 for the hospital ward and £490 for school resources.

Veronica Ferguson, the parent teacher council secretary, told the Advertiser: “The school is currently undergoing a new build.

“The nursery is being knocked down and combined with the school building and a new classroom built.

“We held the Gala just before the builders came in to start measuring up! One of the items on our wish list is an outdoor classroom, so we will need a keep the fundraising happening.

One of the main events of the day was the final show of Kilcreggan Primary School’s Got Talent which saw Lilly Dolan coming first place with a beautiful ballet dance, Carly O’Donnell and Grace Mortlock came second with an entertaining performance of the cup song and Emma Bray placed third with her lego castle creation.

Veronica added: “Parents loved the KPS Got talents and there were three judges.

“There was a bouncy castle, coconut shy, crazy golf, tombola along with lots of lovely homemaking.

“Then were was running races ad tug of war, always a firm favourite and the children ended up beating the adults.

“The wheelbarrow of booze was a very popular ticket seller and great thanks to Millie seen with her wheel barrow made over £200.”

Veronica gave a special thanks to the PTC’s chair Mairi Benton, who organised the gala, and Babcock Clyde for their donation of burgers, hot dogs, buns and coffee.
