HELENSBURGH'S lifeboat and coastguard rescue team were called out to a report of a person in the water at the west end of the town on Monday night.

The report stated there was a person in difficulty near the former Cairndhu Hotel off West Clyde Street.

However, when the emergency services arrived at the scene they found that the person was a kite surfer who had lost the wind, and was being helped ashore by a friend who had been paddle boarding in the area.

Both were safe and well once ashore and the teams were stood down.

The incident was the Burgh coastguard team's 28th callout of the year, and followed requests for the team to attend two reports of incidents at the River Clyde near Glasgow city centre on Sunday night – though on both of those occasions, the coastguard team was stood down while on route to Glasgow.
