Family and friends have put on a special party to celebrate a Helensburgh woman’s 100th birthday.

Norah Hughes was joined by her family, friends and members of the church at the event in the Bethesda Christian Fellowship last Wednesday.

Tom Hughes, Norah’s son, told the Advertiser: “It was an excellent day and well organised by kind people in the church.

“About 70 people came and that was friends, family and church members.

“She had a great day. She left a bit tired but that’s to be expected when you are 100.”

Norah also received the gift of a card and letter from an MP to commemorate the happy day.

Tom added: “People brought a few presents and cards that were taken round to her flat but it was all about the celebration.

Norah moved to the Rosneath area in 1973 with her family and then moved to Helensburgh about 20 years ago.

Norah worked as a nurse at the Canniesburn Hospital before retiring, now Norah is an active member of the Bethesda Christian Fellowship and spends her time taking part in activities in Waverly Court.

Guests were treated to tea, coffee and cake on the day and they listened to music, danced and watched a slideshow display of photographs as people shared happy memories.

“She was happy that we were all there. She had a dance as well at one point with Gordon the pastor.”
