Sunshine brought smiles to Rhu Primary School’s annual spring fair and bike sale on Saturday.

The popular event saw lots of families visit the event to grab a bargain bike, play on the bouncy castle and get their faces painted.

Julie Benning, the chairperson of the Rhu Primary School Association told the Advertiser: “It went really well.

“I think the weather really helped.

“That was the first time in a couple of years we have had good weather.

“The kids can just enjoy it a lot better when there’s not a puddle at the bottom of the bouncy castle.”

About 30 bikes were sold to new owners during the bike sale.

Julie explained that the parent council have not had a chance to add up the final total raised from the event.

“We don’t have a final total yet because everyone has been really busy,” she said, “but we were happy with the turn out given that there was so much on that day in Helensburgh.

“We had great support from all the parents and teachers. The help allowed us to do everything we wanted.

“I think all the kids had a great day. Mine said they enjoyed it and all the feedback has been good.”

The children were also entertained with glitter tattoos, games and a craft table

A number of generous businesses in the local area donated prizes to the huge raffle including hair and beauty vouchers, toys, golf vouchers and shopping vouchers.

Julie added: “It’s well supported by everyone.

“The food for the barbecue was donated by the Royal Navy, so we would like to thank them.

“We would also like to thank all the parents who helped organise the event and make it a success and everyone who came along because we couldn’t have done it without them.”
