A HELENSBURGH thug who assaulted a man and told him “I’m going to put you to sleep” has had his curfew extended by a month after he threw his electronic tag in a bin.

Aaron Macdonald, of Baird Avenue, claimed security firm G4S told him it was okay to throw the tag away after a holiday, following a court’s decision to allow him to do without the equipment during the four-day break.

But when Macdonald returned to court last week to answer for his actions, a sheriff labelled his story “nonsense”.

The 25-year-old was handed a ‘restriction of liberty order’ as punishment after he admitted assaulting a man outside an Arrochar pub on July 16 last year and resisting police officers’ attempts to arrest him at his Helensburgh home later that same day.

At Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday, Macdonald’s solicitor said his client “undertook to search for the tag in his bins” after his “mistake”.

Sheriff John Hamilton said: “While allowed the privilege of suspending for four days, he completely disrespected that by this nonsense story he could put it in the bin, which is just ridiculous.”

Macdonald’s curfew was due to end on June 1, but Sheriff Hamilton ruled that the tag should stay in place until July 1.

A previous court hearing was told Macdonald seized his victim by the throat and dragged him along a driveway.
