THE 20th anniversary Rhu and Shandon Gala is just two days away.

The popular annual event takes place this Saturday, June 9, in the grounds of the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club in the village.

The proceedings start at noon at Rhu Marina where the gala procession, led by Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band will set out on the short walk to the yacht club where former Celtic and Scotland footballer Murdo MacLeod will open the event, helped by the ‘Gala Royals’ from Rhu Primary School.

The event itself will feature a dog show, food, drink and gift stalls, rides, an assault course, a bungee run, a miniature zoo, a crockery smash and much more, while local a capella singers Tartan Harmony will entertain in the beer tent

In the main arena, in front of the clubhouse, there is a full programme of events including a birds of prey show, dancing and cheerleading demonstrations, family races and, at the end of the day, a tug of war.

Committee member Malcolm Pearson said: “The gala committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported the gala over the years. We hope the sun shines and we attract people of all ages in the area to come along and have a fun family day.”
