The Helensburgh branch of Save the Children recently held its annual summer afternoon tea raising more than £1,000.

85 visitors flocked to Helensburgh Sailing Club for tea, sandwiches and cakes last week and they managed to raise £1,175 for the cause.

Diane Macintosh, the event organiser, told the Advertiser: "It went very well. We are delighted with the amount raised.

"There was a traditional afternoon tea and it was served in nice China with delicious sandwiches. It's always an enjoyable event."

The guests also welcomed this year's guest speaker, Roy MacDonald, a gemologist and bespoke jeweller from Callander, who spoke about 'The Story of Diamonds'.

Diane said: "The talk was very informative and all the ladies enjoyed it."

The committee also thanked everyone who attended the event last week and Helensburgh Sailing Club for allowing them to use the venue.

"The Sailing Club is always a nice venue, particularly on a nice day.

"It's always very bright and airy.

"We are very grateful to everyone that came to the afternoon tea and the staff at the sailing club", Diane added.
