THE Helensburgh trio who were named in the Queen’s birthday honours list have been praised for their efforts at the Scottish Parliament.

The town’s MSP, Jackie Baillie, lodged a member’s motion congratulating Diana Macintosh and Sheenah Nelson on being awarded British Empire Medals and Alistair Newton on receiving an MBE.

As reported in the Advertiser last month, Diana received her award for her charity work with Save the Children and Contact the Elderly, while Sheenah has spent decades campaigning on health issues and has been closely involved with the work of Macmillan Cancer Support and Heartstart.

Alistair, who has the neurological condition dystonia, now lives in St Andrews and was made an MBE for his work in the health sector, and in particular on founding several leading professional bodies to investigate the condition.

All three are expected to receive their awards at ceremonies later this year.

Ms Baillie’s motion has been backed by five MSPs from the SNP and the Conservatives.
