Sporty school kids leaped into the summer holiday season with a host of energetic activities.

Pupils at Kilcreggan Primary didn’t let wet and windy weather get in the way of their sports day.

The youngsters were split into mixed age groups and took on a variety of sporting challenges. Members of the school’s Parents Council provided ice lollies for the boys and girls. Meanwhile, Primary Seven pupils got on their bikes for a cycling proficiency test. Teacher Helen Cairns taught the theory, while parents, led by

Linda Bell, led the practical side, tak ing the children out onto roads near the school. All nine children passed with flying colours. At Hermitage Primary, enterprising youngsters designed a new tracksuit then wrote to local businesses ask ing for sponsorship to help produce the outfit. Helensburgh firm, Your Move, agreed to provide 14 tracksuits for pupils to wear while taking part in sporting events.

Keeping fit was high on the agenda at St Joseph’s Primary when health conscious primary two pupils took part in a 500-metre run. The youngsters spent six weeks training for the half-kilometre challenge with the help of parent, Rebecca Welsh.

At Cardross Primary, janitor Fred Hummel presented sports prizes to senior pupils who competed for points at a variety of sporting events.
