A WOMAN who was evacuated from her Helensburgh home after fire broke out in a neighbouring flat has told the Advertiser she's thankful the outcome wasn't more serious.

One man was taken to hospital following the blaze at a property near the junction of East King Street and Grant Street in the early hours of Friday, July 13.

The woman, who lives in another flat in the same block and asked not to be named, said: “I woke up when I heard a lot of crashing, like a wall cabinet falling down, then the smash of a window going out.

“Then the man in the flat next to us was shouting ‘fire, fire, get out’.

“I’m just really thankful no-one was killed.

“We were escorted into our flat later to pick up some belongings but we can’t stay there just now.

“We grabbed some clothes and a few other things.

“Fortunately we have family we are able to stay with, but we don’t know how long we’re going to be out of our home.”

Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
