JONATHAN STURGEON won the annual Midway Open at Helensburgh Golf Club in surprisingly wet conditions on Sunday.

Jonathan’s total of 42 stableford points came from a round featuring two birdies and four pars and was enough to secure the trophy in a card play-off against Stewart Fraser, who returned the same points total.

Andrew MacFarlane of Douglas Park finished third with 40 points.

Alan Walker’s 42 points won the monthly seniors’ midweek medal on July 11 after a round which included one birdie and five pars.

Alan beat Mick Massey to top spot by one point, while Murray Waddell finished third, one point further back.

Sandy Bulloch scored 43 points to win Saturday’s second round of the BMW with one birdie and eight pars, knocking Paul Duerden (42 points) into second place. John Fugler was a close third with 41pts.

Former club captains David Reid and Tom Foster both scored 21 points in the inaugural nine-hole Super Seniors Stableford, eligible only to gents born before 1949, at Helensburgh last Monday.

David won the trophy in a card play-off, counting back over the last six holes. Another former Helensburgh captain, John Fugler, was third on 20 points.
