PLANS have been submitted for a housing development at a Cardross farm – just over a month after similar proposals were withdrawn.

Christine Morrow, of Asker Farm, is seeking planning permission from Argyll and Bute Council to convert existing barns and stables to form three houses.

She is also looking to build a livery stable block at the Carman Road farm, install a sewage treatment plant and carry out similar works.

The same plans, with the exception of the livery stable block, were previously submitted to the local authority in December 2017.

However, they were then amended in March before the application was officially withdrawn on Tuesday, June 26.

A supporting document for the new application says: “Asker Farm is no longer a working farm but a private dwelling for Mr and Mrs Morrow from which they run a modest but successful livery/equestrian business.

“Some of the land/fields are used by neighbouring farmers who maintain the fields all the land at Asker Farm is available to use by customers for trekking.

“There is an equestrian arena to the south of the farm house and the livery services are provided with various detached timber and steel stable blocks scattered around the outside of the courtyard buildings.

“The detached stables were erected when the original barns fell into disrepair and were not safe for clients and their horses and therefore not fit for purpose. The barns in question are now purely used for personal storage due to their condition.

“Mr and Mrs Morrow propose to build a new purpose built stable block beside the riding arena and develop the traditional barns into three dwellings.”

The document adds that customers have left the livery business over the last 20 years due to the condition and standard of the facilities.
