MEMBERS of Helensburgh’s lifeboat crew were called out to two incident reports on successive days this week.

The first report, on Sunday afternoon, stated that two people were in the water off Clynder trying to recover a sinking boat.

The lifeboat was launched at 4.35pm and found two people trying to recover a speedboat from its mooring to the shore.

The craft, however, was barely afloat, and due to the amount of water it had taken on, the lifeboat’s crew advised that the safest option was for the pair to proceed back to shore, where they were met by the Kilcreggan coastguard team.

The lifeboat returned to its station in Rhu and was ready for service again at 5.10pm.

The crew was then asked to launch shortly before 8pm on Monday in response to a report of a person clinging to a small fishing boat off Graham’s Point in the Holy Loch.

A police RIB and other vessels also attended the call, and by the time the Helensburgh lifeboat reached the scene the person was no longer in the water.

The crew went ashore to check the welfare of the person before being stood down at 8.30pm; the lifeboat was ready for service again by 9.20pm.
