A CONTROVERSIAL boundary wall and gateway around a property in Rosneath have been recommended for planning approval – despite objections from village residents.

The retrospective proposals for the Ferry Inn will be discussed at Argyll and Bute Council's planning, protective services and licensing committee (PPSL) at a meeting in Lochgilphead next week.

A report recommends that planning permission and listed building consent should be granted for Carol Weir's proposals for the site, subject to conditions.

Despite the submission of 13 objections, including one from Rosneath and Clynder Community Council, council planning officials also say they do not believe there is a need to hold a public hearing at a more local venue to consider the plans in detail.

A report by planning officer Howard Young states: "It is considered that the wall and gateway do not detract from the character of the listed dwellinghouse or wider area and is acceptable subject to the wall being rendered.

"As such the key issues have already been addressed and it is not considered that a hearing would add value to the decision making process in this instance."

A final decision on whether to grant permission, and whether to hold a hearing, will be taken by the PPSL committee in Lochgilphead on Wednesday, August 22.
