THE work of a group of budding Helensburgh photographers went on display to rave reviews in the town last week.

The exhibition – ‘People, Places, Things’ – was the culmination of 10 weeks of hard work from a group of students undertaking a beginners’ evening class in photography at Argyll College UHI’s Helensburgh learning centre.

The course, which took place one evening per week for ten weeks, was led by award-winning local photographer Kath Polley.

She introduced and explained key photographic topics such as exposure, composition and narrative via genres such as portraiture, still life and landscape photography, and a series of fun exercises and projects to work on at home.

Faye Tudor, centre manager for Argyll College in Helensburgh, said: “It was lovely to see the centre so busy and to see everyone enjoying the fabulous artwork on show.

“Kath and the students have worked so hard to arrive at this point, so it gives me great pleasure to see their efforts rewarded.”

The exhibition was staged with the help of Picture It! Scotland, who provided quality prints of the students’ work for the exhibition, PJ’s Kitchen, who supplied the nibbles and refreshments for the evening, and Gillian Russell at Bodysense Holistic Therapies for a donation of a voucher for the raffle.

Paul Joseph from PJ’s Kitchen said: “I feel that education is the key to personal and community success, from cheffing to photography.”

Tutor Kath said: “I was lucky to have such a lovely bunch of friendly supportive students and I am so pleased that we were able to offer them this opportunity to see and share their work in an exhibition like this.”

“I’m already looking forward to the next one!”
