Today's Archive Hour story sees us go back 10 years to the alarming story of reports that a pornographic film was being made in the grounds of the former St Peter's Seminary in Cardross.

Here's how we reported the news in the Advertiser on September 4, 2008...

THE Catholic Church has appealed for the help of Cardross residents following reports of a pornographic film maker working in the grounds of the former St Peter’s College.

This week, photographer Zolita McGuicken, who has spent many hours taking photographs of the crumbling edifice, said: “I recently met a German porn film maker in the grounds.

“There were three skimpily clad girls running around — it was a most peculiar sight.”

Zolita continued: “You meet all types in the grounds there and some are attracted by the fact that it was once sacred ground.

“You see all kinds of things there and I have even seen used barbecues on the high altar.

“It is just such a sad building but it is too far gone now to be saved. I used to live in Dumbarton and became quite obsessed with it myself and I have photographed its decline over a number of years now.”

Zolita began photography as a hobby and has had some of her work published in the national press.

“It is such a pity that the building has been left to rot,” she said, “but it was built for a purpose and no longer has that purpose.”

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Glasgow said this week: “No-one using that area is doing so with our permission.

“We try to maintain security of the site and have recently installed new fencing but short of employing a 24 hour guard it is impossible to keep people out of the site.

“If anyone sees people engaged in inappropriate activities then I would ask that the police are called because no-one has been given permission to be there.

“In fact, there is a safety issue – we could never give such permission because the site is potentially a very dangerous place to be.”

He added that the Archdiocese is still very willing to talk to anyone who has an appropriate proposal for the use of the site, but that there were no such talks under way at the moment.
