THE long-serving former chairman of the RNLI’s Helensburgh lifeboat committee, Donald McLaren, was honoured at a presentation at the Rhu station this week.

Current chairman Howard Morrison, who succeeded Donald in the post earlier this year, presented the certificate to mark Donald’s nine years as Helensburgh branch treasurer, from 2001 until 2010, and his seven years as chairman, from 2011 to 2018.

Donald’s association with the waters around Helensburgh stretches back to the early 1960s and includes spells as secretary and treasurer of the Clyde Yacht Clubs Association and commodore of Helensburgh Sailing Club.

He is also a Royal Yachting Association qualified national judge and race officer.
