A TEENAGER must carry out unpaid work in the community after being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Ciaran Hendry, 19, of James Street, Helensburgh, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, February 7.

He admitted, between August 27 last year and September 9, at Suffolk Street, Fraser Avenue and East Clyde Street, of being concerned in the supplying of class B drug cannabis and that he did commit the offence whilst on an undertaking to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on September 20 last year.

Scott Simpson, the fiscal depute, outlined the circumstances of the case, saying the case against Hendry came to light when police carried out a routine search of a vehicle that contained the accused.

Police suspicions became aroused when they detected a smell in the car and a search found three plastic bags with 51 smaller bags of herbal cannabis which had an accumulative value on the street of £1,000.

A tin can also contained £20 of cannabis.

It's understood that a search warrant was also executed at the accused's home address.

Sheriff William Gallacher imposed a Community Payback Order which requires Hendry to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work in the community within the next nine months.

The accused was also placed under supervision for the next 18 months.
