WORK on ending the discharge of raw sewage into the Firth of Clyde off Rhu is expected to begin next month, according to the village's community council.
Representatives of Scottish Water and their contractor, George Leslie Ltd, attended an information event at the Rhu and Shandon Community Centre on February 28 to provide details of the work to be undertaken and answer questions from members of the public.
In a news item posted on the community's website, Rhu and Shandon Community Council secretary Jean Cook wrote: "The actual starting date in April has not yet been announced.
"The work will take 8 months; there will be traffic management during that time; and the road will not be closed."
Scottish Water announced in December that it intended to install two septic tanks on to the existing public sewer network in the village to end the discharge of untreated waste water into the Firth of Clyde.
The work – which will take place at the foot of Torwoodhill Road and at the bottom of Armadale Road – is part of a £5 million package of environmental improvements aimed at improving the water quality of the Firth.
Other, similar, improvements will be carried out in Strone, Kilmun, Innellan and Toward on the Cowal peninsula.
The work will enable compliance with strict water quality standards, while protecting and enhancing the environment.
