GRANTS worth more than £28,000 to voluntary groups across Helensburgh and Lomond will be considered by local councillors next week.

Members of Argyll and Bute's Helensburgh and Lomond area committee will discuss applications from 24 'third sector' organisations when they meet in Helensburgh on Tuesday, April 11.

The projects for which funding has been sought include a five-day Fire Reach course in Helensburgh, a history booklet for Arrochar, Tarbet and Ardlui, and the Highland Games events in Helensburgh and Rosneath.

The 24 local groups have applied for a total of £45,647.44 from the council's Supporting Communities Fund, though only £28,375 is available for groups in the Helensburgh and Lomond area.

The recommended awards, and the projects for which the groups are seeking support, are as follows.

Argyll and Bute Youth Forum – £310.80 towards the cost of running the AB Awards for young people.

Argyll and Bute TSI (Helensburgh office) - £1,184 towards delivery of a five-day Fire Reach course.

Arrochar and Tarbet Senior Citizens Welfare Committee - £368.16 towards a summer outing and afternoon tea.

Arrochar, Tarbet and Ardlui Community Council - £85 towards reprinting a local history booklet.

Bicentenary Pipe Band Championships - £1,920 towards the costs of the event.

Cove and Kilcreggan Lunch Club - £856.32 to support a summer outing, Christmas shopping trip, Christmas party and regular weekly social gathering.

Cove and Kilcreggan Youth Cafe - £880 towards youth worker's salary to support youth activities in Cove.

Dumbarton and District branch of MS Society - £642.40 towards the cost of their fortnightly Helensburgh drop-in.

Friends of the Victoria Hall - £2,320 towards a more inclusive Christmas lights switch-on and Santa Parade, including an open-top bus for young people with mobility issues.

Helensburgh and District Access Trust - £1,120 to help train two volunteers and hire equipment for essential repairs to the Three Lochs Way.

Helensburgh and District branch of Enable - £1,050 to provide short breaks for adults with learning disabilities and expand the volunteer base and users of the existing Tuesday Group.

Helensburgh and District Royal British Legion Scotland - £192.50 to cover costs associated with the annual Remembrance Sunday parade.

Helensburgh and Lomond Autism - £320.64 to provide training in life skills, fire safety and personal safety to parents and children.

Helensburgh and Lomond Carers SCIO - £930 to support their befriending service for adults.

Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank - £254.08 to help with food storage and insurance costs.

Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games - £1,760 towards infrastructure costs and media promotion of the event on June 3.

Helensburgh Community Council - £600 for a feasibility study into a Helensburgh information centre.

Helensburgh Music Society - £960 towards the cost of their 2017-18 concert season.

Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Club - £440 to help with the cost of their production of 'Sister Act' in November.

Helensburgh Tree Conservation Trust - £757.39 to help replace old, diseased or vandalised trees and the purchase of metal tree guards.

Project 81, Garelochhead – £2,346.24 towards youth drop-in sessions, employing at least one seasonal young person and support the Cafe 'n' Play programme.

Rhu and Shandon Community Council - £3,420 towards professional fees for a conservation area appraisal for Rhu.

Rosneath Peninsula Highland Gathering - £1,680 towards the cost of the event.

Welcome In - £3,977.47 towards running their weekly 'recovery cafe'.

The area committee's meeting on April 11 takes place at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre at 6.30pm.
