AN EASTER Sunday sunrise service in Rhu and egg rolling in Helensburgh's Hermitage Park are the highlight of activities by local churches over the Easter weekend.

The 'sunrise service' at Rhu and Shandon Parish Church takes place at 6.30am on Sunday and will be led by the Rev David Young.

All those attending are welcome to enjoy breakfast after the service in the church hall.

And worshippers in Helensburgh can enjoy egg rolling in Hermitage Park immediately after a short act of worship in Helensburgh Parish Church at 9am, led by the Rev Tina Kemp.

The Rhu and Helensburgh congregations will then join up for a united family service at Rhu and Shandon Parish Church at 11am, led by both ministers.

At Cardross Parish Church there's an early family service, suitable for all ages, at 8.30am, during which balloons will be released from the church, all bearing the Easter message; the main Easter Sunday service follows at 11am.

Other local Church of Scotland services on Easter Sunday will be held in Arrochar at 10am and Luss at 11.45am.

The Bethesda Christian Fellowship is holding an Easter Sunday communion service at 9.30am and an all-age service at 11am.

The services at Helensburgh Baptist Church will be led by the Rev Dr Neil Allison, with morning prayer at 10am and the morning service at 11am.

The Easter evening praise will begin at 6.30 led by the Praise Group with communion to follow.

Garelochhead Parish Church will celebrate with a service at 11.15am led by the Rev Ann Cameron.

The Craigrownie Parish Church service will begin at 9.45am and be led by the Rev Christine Murdoch.

Ms Murdoch will also lead the service at St Modan's Parish Church in Garelochhead at 11.15am.

Helensburgh United Reformed Church will start celebrations with an Easter breakfast in the church hall at 9am before the Easter morning worship at 10.30am led by the Rev Paul Jupp.
