MORE than 20 people took part in the latest volunteer beach clean in Cardross, finding much less litter than expected on the village’s shoreline.

Volunteer and Cardross community councillor Bob Murray said this was partly due to the lack of storms in the past few months, but also because of the efforts of people who walk along the shore regularly picking up litter dropped by others or washed up on the tide.

Mr Murray said: “Very few plastic bags were in evidence, which is great, but our trawl along the shore yielded the usual crop of plastic bottles and smaller plastic items such as plastic straws and the dreaded cotton bud stems.

“A huge ‘thank you’ to all those who supported us. Please look out for notices for our next beach clean event in October.”

Helensburgh Community Council holds its next beach clean on Saturday, April 22. Volunteers should meet at the pier at 10am and wear suitable footwear and gloves.
