TWELVE members of the public answered a call for volunteers to help clear weeds and dead shrubs from Colquhoun Square’s plant beds last week.
And the event, on the evening of Wednesday, May 10, was such a success that another one will take place this week.
John Tacchi from Helensburgh Community Council said: “Volunteers cleared the beds on the east side of weed and dead shrubs. The community council, and I am certain the people of Helensburgh, are most grateful for the 12 volunteers who helped a couple of community councillors in this work.”
The next clear-up event takes place next Wednesday, May 24, from 7-8.30pm, when the focus will be on the plant beds on the west side of the square.
Mr Tacchi said: “Bring a friend along. it is fun grubbing about in the bushes! We are exploring ideas to provide a more appropriate planting plan, low maintenance we hope, and looking for sources of funding so that the centre piece of the town becomes a thing of pride to us all.”
The community council has also asked that anyone who would like to join in Wednesday night's clean-up bring any weeding tools or equipment with them if they can.
