A HELENSBURGH woman who found comfort in walking during her breast cancer treatment will mark the end of her radiotherapy by taking part in the Glasgow at Night Pink Ribbonwalk next month.

Karen Stocks, 53, was diagnosed after visiting a portable mammogram bus that stopped by the town.

Now, supported by husband Andrew and daughter Helen, Karen will take on the five mile walk at the Breast Cancer Care event on June 17.

She said: “Walking kept me sane during my treatment. I felt like things were spiralling out of control and the only thing I could take charge of was walking.

“I’m taking part in the Pink Ribbonwalk with my husband and daughter because we want to make sure that nobody has to worry about facing breast cancer alone.

“We have had tremendous support from Breast Cancer Care and we want to make sure that other people can benefit too.”

Karen is now urging everyone to sign up for the Pink Ribbonwalk and raise as much as they can to help the charity be there for the thousands of people affected by the most common cancer in the UK.

Breast Cancer Care and Karen are now inviting women, men and children to sign up for a 5, 10 or 20 mile walk where they will be able to enjoy the sights of Glasgow at night.

Participants will be invited to write a personal message on a ribbon which can then be added to the ribbon tunnel before they receive their medals at the finish.

Breast cancer figures in Glasgow taken from the National Cancer Intelligence Network state that more than 1,000 people in Greater Glasgow will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and all funds raised at the Pink Ribbonwalks will enable the charity to provide care, support and information to them from day one.
